Poll #4: How do you think about us Egyptian as whole?

So finally, now regardless of "we've kind hearts" and we "live in peace", and issues like that, I am talking professionally, what do you think about our value as "Egyptians" (only those who live inside Egypt) for the man kind?

And please give reasons for your opinion.

N.B: I don't hate being Egyptian, but I see a HUGE amount of negative issues more than any other nation in the history (as a nation which was one day the most advanced one on the planet)

I'm thinking about how we can raise the value of Egyptian citizens. maybe we can give each tourist 2 Egyptians for free.
in Egypt,a Tourist is a king while the real country owners are slaves.

WHY ??
- try to call a hospital for an ambulance, they will ask if the patient is a tourist or Egyptian.

- most of us are good people, but we are frightened of police men and gov.

- in elections, who needs 70 million Egyptian to fill the boxes??!! only one man can do that.

- we build huge buildings for the rich kids to learn them how to dance and sing in French. while the poor kids and families can't find water that helps them continue their miserable life.

Yeah true...
Ahmed, :-) You summed it up...

Meshref, you are absolutely right! It's our country; we have a hand in everything going on around us...
Maybe we have different opinions about some other stuff, but your sentence in this comment is 110% true.

You are absolutely right 100% and it is really funny reading it coz it is truth. Egypt is already at the point of boiling water waiting to blow up. Its time to stand up, if we are going to act like a slave, we are treated as a slave. Egypt is our country not Mubarak, Gamal Mubarak but our country! So all have to stand up. Nothing to loose everything already collapsed. Everything is already taken out to bank in Switzerland. Egypt is being robbed by the President and his croonies!

You are right
I have a small comment for Poll #1:
---------
When he/she is in his final year, and doesn't even know a very primitive terms like Object Oriented, break point, #include, namespace, dynamic link library, linker, etc (I am not talking about the meaning that you can get by typing define:word in Google, I am talking about understanding it).
---------
For sorry, not only students
I've seen A Demonistrator faied to subtract binary numbers!
does not know what does this means in DOS:
"CD..\..\filesp" though he was teaching us DOS!
more over, A DOCTOR who has no idea about how to create a trivial function in a simple java application, another one hardly know what polymorphism is!
Oh God, they had PhD!!
I'm not kidding, this is true, and I've seen this.
Back to students
If I don't know what (break points, DLLs, #include) are in fourth year, it is a very big problem
But what do you think if I had the master degree in CS a year ago, may be working in .net or other staff and don't know or understand these,
isn't it a disaster?

Actually I've tried before, let me give you some examples:

1- When I make free courses for students in my college and not only people not attend, but they say that I am doing these courses to show off, what should I say?!

2- When I spend a freaken amount of time preparing stuff for people and losing the time that I could have been able to increase my knowledge or even have fun and then I don't get any thing in return except people hating me more?!!

3- When people refuse my help because they see that it won't bring them a higher grades (they only care about getting a better grade regardless of what they will do with it)?!

I've tried many time before to help people becoming better, and I am still doing this every year, i.e. in every vacation for me to Egypt I visit many colleges and make free seminars for people and tell them how can they develop themselves, the last time I got only 5 people attending the seminar out of 1500 in the college (and 3 out of those 5 know me personally so they attended just for me).

People in Egypt are really very bad, the 5% of good people there are usually leaving Egypt and leaving behind only about 1% of good people.

I have a very wild dream (the wildest ever) and that dream turns out to be that I hope to drive my car in a lane and keep moving in the lane without having my car crushed by other cars (other driver think that lanes are decorations for the road), thats a real thing and it summs all of our problems .
for people thinking that you want to show of, they didn't think that !! you got it wrong, its only they though that you wanted to be noticed and to get higher degees by the staff (lol).
we hate bright and smart people , we think people with strong personality as bossy ones and must be deserted , we discard the ones who needs help and we love liers , losers and who really showes of.

hi meshref,

don't you think of coming back to egypt and starting a software company? you know, leveraging the country's software industry level, and giving new graduates the chance to avoid having to immigrate like you did?
I mean, oh God , aren't there gonna to be any "software" company in egypt at all? all maintenance and sales?
meshref , think about it please,
Amr :)

Mohamed Moshrif said...

@Amr: If I left Egypt only because of work then yes once day I may think of coming back, but the problem here I left EG because of many other reasons :)

Anonymous said...

aha, and what are these many other reasons?
I think your people need you more than microsoft does, microsoft has a zillion developers and they've already mastered the world with their products, it doesn't need to crop the top genius of the third world every year, microsoft will do good without you whatever be the reasons why you went to america, only these poor countries like egypt are the ones who have been deprived the chance to evolve,

listen meshref, you are a brilliant guy, microsoft doesn't deserve you, your people are the ones who deserve your help and genius, and at the same time you will make alot of money in egypt.

think about it :)
Amr.

Mohamed Moshrif said...

@Amr: Let's start from the last line, a lot of money in Egypt?!!

How?!

Tell me what's the average salary for a semi-new graduate like me (~1.5 years of experience), how much?!

2K LE?
3K LE?
4K LE?

I think it won't reach 4K LE by any mean, right?

Let's assume it's 4K LE, ok?!

Now let's see what I can do with this for the life essentials like having a car and marrying someone (I am not talking about luxury life, just basics):
To buy a car an average car in Egypt will cost about 50-60 K, let’s take the mean and say it’s 55K, now if spend money normally on food, clothes, mobile phone, etc, let’s say I’ll spend 1.5K and I’ll have 2.5K, so 55/3 = 22 months = almost 2 years just to buy a car and put in mind I didn’t calculate any money for going out or enjoying life.
Now to get a small apartment to get marry I think it will cost at least 150K (150K is a dreaming price, actual prices won’t be less than 200-220 for a mid-size apartment), so again 150/2.5 = 60 months /12 = 5 years
So now 5 + 2 = 7 years to get a car and an apartment.

When you add the marriage costs + furnishing the apartment this will add almost another 100K = 3.5 years.

So to be ready to say “I want to marry” this will take more than 10 years, and to be frank, I don’t wanna wait all this time, and put in mind I just worked hard for more than 10 years without taking any vacation or enjoying good time because all these cost more money and more money means more time to spend.
You’ll tell me that you’ll salary will increase, and I’ll say that the costs I used above are really idiotic, actual costs are about 2X of what I mentioned above (tell me how can you live with only 1.5K per month and I’ll continue with you).

That’s for the money part.

Now let’s go back to the beginning of the message, what will I do in Egypt?
I’ll either work in a company or build my own company, let’s start with the first choice, working in a company because building a company is about business and it’s not about helping anyone.

What kinds of companies are there in Egypt?!
More than 99% of companies are just working in Database applications and web applications, do you think they really need me or need anyone to help them be better?!
Anyone with high school degree with some luck can work in these companies and perform well, because these types of applications don’t need any “experience” or any “smart developers” they just need “programmers”.

And I’ll be working all the week long from the morning till the night, right?

The issue you’re missing here is I love working here, it’s not about who needs who, it’s about someone who give me the things I need to live like a normal human without having any fear on how I’ll get marry or how I’ll continue eating for the rest of the month and at the same time gives me enough time to enjoy my life and stay with my family and friends, and over all these, give me the chance to work on something I can really use my brain not just some dump code writing for some lazy web site or database application.

In addition to all these, I love the life here more than Egypt many times, at least no stupid officer will kick my ass just because he’s a freaken sick person who just liked the idea of kicking my ass, I won’t spend 3 or 4 weeks running her and there just to finish some paper work, or suffer every day from the increment of life expenses without any reason, or some idiot manager whose uncle is the company’s owner and whose only goal in life is to make my life looks like hell because he doesn’t like me being better than him, or, or, or, or…………..

What I always looking for is to be a human, that’s why I don’t plan to go back in Egypt soon or late.

I hope I clearly told you “the why” I don’t plan to go back.

Mohamed Moshrif said...

And the last thing are people in Egypt, how can I help them in your opinion?

I just can provide guidence, courses, and stuff like that which I am already doing remotely, and I am also doing on site everytime I go back on vacation, so again no need to go back for this :)

ok mohammed, I am fully aware that an anonymous post on the internet will not make you change your plans,

life in egypt with a salary like you mentioned is even worse than that, much more worse when your salary isn't even 4k not even 1/6 of that,

but this is not the point, I am surely not telling to come back to the egyptian heaven, everyone knows egypt has big problems, and that's why it needs help.

the salary model is a little desperate, do you think bill gates thought that way? the man founded a huge huge company whose financials are now a little more than 5 times the financials of a whole country like egypt for example. I don't think he built that using his salary whatever big it might have been.
the idea is about innovation and siezing your chances, like you said, database adminstration and web design doesn't need that much of a brilliant guy, only innovation needs brilliant people, and brilliant people make stuff not just use them,
what I want to say is, you don't need to work for someone in egypt and take a salary, you should start your own company and innovate your own new technologies and market them,
look at success stories, microsoft being an inevitable example, look at borland, alias (before it's bought by autodesk), pixologic, and many others,
I was really shocked when I knew recently that borland, sony, toshiba, hitachi, mitsubishi... etc are all person's names! something like شركة المحمدي لصناعة السيارات , something like that, all these grand companies started out small, very small, but what made their names (and billions) is that they had brilliant people who knew what they were doing, and I know you mohammed (I've personally met you once before and I've dealt with you for a long time but maybe you won't remember) and I know you're a brilliant guy, egypt needs people like you to start its megacompanies, and the benefit comes to you before anyone else,

how does your own company help anyone in egypt? it helps alot, first the companie's stocks at the stocks market decides (partially) the national currency prices against foreign currencies, which means , if you make a billion dollars for yourself you will probably cut the dollar's price against egyptian pound to 3 quarters the current price,
and you're the first to benefit because most of the money is yours,
second, you will provide job opportunities in your yet-to-come company and other depending companies for a great deal of egyptian people who can otherwise starve or immigrate to a foreign country and the vicious circle continues, and again you're the first one to benefit because they would be working for you and growing your own company.

is this too big for you? it surely looks so at the first look, but if you break it down to its element you'll see it's not that impossible, it only needs brains and innovation and that is something that's not available to anybody, look at startup companies success stories and how they turned into megacompanies and you'll know you can do it yourself if you're smart enough, and I know you are.

sorry for this long post :)
see you,
Amr

Bill Gates founded his way in US not in Egypt, he didn’t have to pay for a lot of government employee to just keep his business running and starting, he haven’t been forced to have someone sharing his company just to be safe from having his closing his business, so in other words I can start a business here tomorrow and have it growing very easy (which I’ve already done by the way).

And about starting a company in Egypt, again, companies are about business not about innovation only (innovation only plays about 5% from the success of any company, the rest is only about doing business, which is marketing, environment, etc), so tell me, when I start my company, who are my customers?!!
I can’t go internationally without being strong locally, so who will buy an OS, or RDBMS, or any service from you in Egypt?!
Who buy anything aslan?!
And even if you’re trying to work in the normal fields in Egypt (DB and Web) who will trust you to make their own web sites?!
Companies just pay 5X for big companies to make their web sites and DBs just because of the name.
How many companies started in Egypt and failed in the next month or two because of this?!
And in addition to all these, how can you work in a corrupted business environment like Egypt when you need to pay everyone even the garbage man just to keep your business alive?!

Don’t compare any business outside Egypt with business inside Egypt, Sony and Toshiba, etc, are companies who started in clean environment which support their growth, this is not the case in Egypt and it won’t be!!
